Correctional Facilities

DiGesare Mechanical has completed several correctional facilities in various locations. Close coordination with public authorities and construction managers has been paramount to meeting critical deadlines. Installation of specialty fixtures and unique material handling demands are customary for these projects.

These self-contained institutions often include a broad range of support facilities such as kitchens, laundry, control stations, administrative and living quarters.

HVAC – Site Work – Structural Steel
DMI Contract- 10.4 million

DiGesare Mechanical was awarded this HVAC contract by the New York State Office of General Services.  This project consisted of extensive site work including over 3,000 linear feet of underground pre-insulated piping from the main heating plant, through a tunnel under a creek and finally into an energy conversion building.  The site work continued throughout the facility installing concrete stanchions that would be the foundation of a massive structural steel system which supported over 8,000 linear feet of 8″ welded heating lines.  Those heating lines entered 20 individual mechanical rooms throughout the site where domestic water heat exchangers and heating water heat exchangers were installed, converting the facility to a much more energy efficient system.

Albany County Correctional

Plumbing & Fire Protection
DMI Contract Amount - 1.7 Million

This complex is a functional jail and remained fully functional throughout construction. The inmates were relocated on a tier-by-tier basis in a tightly coordinated phasing plan. Temporary stairways were constructed to facilitate the phasing and accommodate the moving of inmates between tiers during construction.

DMI worked closely with the Owner’s security personnel to ensure worker safety, and to monitor material and tool inventories. DMI’s scope of work for this three-story facility included plumbing and fire protection work required to renovate and construct 306 new cells.
